Question:

Which Littermaid box is best?

I'm moving into a new house and bringing my cat with me. Right now we just have a regular litter box but I want to look into getting a Littermaid for him.

So far the only thing I've heard is that the metal spokes on the newer models are worse than the plastic spokes on the old models.

Does anybody have more specific details that can help me out? I'd appreciate it!

It doesn't look like very many people like it. Personally, I have been tempted but afraid that it would malfunction. Plus, cleaning it alone would be a lot more complicated, with all those parts.

My cat (Monkey) and I have a covered litter box from PetCo. It cost about $25 and has a little grate just inside the opening that gets the litter off his feet on his way out, and it comes with a matching scoop that is stored inside in the corner. It came with a detachable door, which I don't use. I just lift off the top once a day and use the scoop to get all the clumped mess into the trash. Every couple of weeks, I dump everything out and clean the whole thing out with GreenWorks spray and paper towels.

I know that was a long story, but it would be even more complicated for me to use one of those automatic litter boxes. I would never feel that it's clean enough, it would be too noisy, and I would hate having to buy all the accessories (privacy tent, litter mat, spare waste container, special litter....), which I can't afford.

Anyway, I hope I helped you either find the Littermaid you want or change your mind and save some money.

  2. They're all garbage, IMO. I recommend that you save yourself a lot of money and hassle by switching to using wood pellet litter with a simple sifting litter box. More info here:

And you can make a box yourself if you don't want to buy one:

If you insist on using traditional, crummy cat litter, then you may want to consider something like this:

    The LitterMaid boxes are junk.
