Question:

Which MP3 players are simple and affordable yet high quality?

Sadly, my Creative Labs Jukebox Zen Xtra recently stopped working. So I'm in the market for a new player with at least 5 GB of space. I don't really have any brand preference, other than iTunes always made my computer fan go crazy, so no iPods. I've been browsing forums and review sites all day, but haven't really found an answer. So I was hoping for some advice on which brand/model to invest in now.

I don't really want something super expensive with a lot of features for multimedia, I just want something simple (with good shock absorption) to listen to music with, that isn't going to freak my 4 year old HP compaq notebook out when I've got the two plugged into each other. Past that, I would prefer something with a chargeable battery.

Sorry if it's a redundant topic, but it would mean a lot to me to get some help.

  1. Just to let you know ahead of time, the current market do not usually sell 5 GB of storage. It's 2 GB, 4 GB, 8GB, and 16 GB. So if you can settle for a 4 GB, you will be able to get two fairly nice mp3 players with little hassle. If you'd like the extra features on top of the mp3 player, then the Samsung T10 is for you. My brother has one and I listened to it. It has a lot of sound options as well as multimedia media options such as voice recording, fm radio and videos. These go for about $100 at Circuit City or Amazon.com

As for me, I have the Sony Walkmans. There are the new ones out from Sony which may be a bit pricey, but I have the older models, NWZ-A816 (4 GB) model. They can range anywhere from $80 to $100, depending on sales. At Circuit City, you may be able to get a 2 GB for about $70. These are said to have great sound quality, and comes up good headphones.

If you want another choice, go for the iRiver Clix. They are said to be good, but even more importantly, get some good headphones.

The above is a audiophile website. I advise you to make an account and start a thread asking what kind of headphones and mp3 player would be suitable for you specific needs.
