Which Melbourne suburb would you recommend for a young professional couple working around Monash University?

Hi we are engineers and working around monash in clayton, we are looking to buy a 3 br house within 300k, which areas would you recommend?

We are considering new estates around Pakenham but its not believed to be a good area and is too far from the city.

What would you recommend?

Prices are so high these days you won't find anything for 300K!!! But I think Clayton is still regarded as being fairly cheap compared to surrounding suburbs. Maybe you can get something for 400-450K

You're right, Pakenham is too far out.  At that sort of price you will be looking further out than Clayton.  You might want to check out the Springvale and Keysborough areas  as real estate isn't so inflated there.
