Which Military Branch?! ?

I am a 22 year old female from Louisiana and next november (2009) I will have earned a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education. I plan on teaching full time but for YEARS i have felt the need to go into the military. Now I am just weighing my options within the branches. It is likely that I will have 9 months after I graduate where I will be able to do other things (considering that most schools start in August....I will have missed the opportunity to teach full-time right out of college) I am not afraid of being deployed so no comments concerning that are needed. But I am wondering which branch could possibly be better(and bias answers are alright. lol. i don't mind). I am also not planning on joining full-time so that leaves Reserves and National Guards open. I am interested in rescue operations: rescue swimmer, medical, etc. But am needing something that will train me in that considering I'm not trained! ha. I have also been told that certain branches of the military don't allow females to be involved in rescue swimming so yeah...i dunno. just need some info (as much as you can provide) on those things: which branch, possible jobs, and what they can offer me as a officer. Much appreciation and much love people! Thanks!

  1. It depends on what you want to do. Every branch offers something different. I went the with the Air Force Reserves. I've been in for about 5 years now and loved every minute of it. Talk to recruiters and check out your options, also check out what bonus they have to offer. I got $10,000 and since I was activated for 2 years I recieved 100% tutition for college. I've almost traveled to every country including Antartica as an aircraft crew chief. Air Force treats thier people great. Unless you like digging holes and sleeping in tents go for the others. I choose to fly around and stay in sweet hotels. Good luck

  2. I am prior service Marine and I will tell you 100% go Air National Guard. They will repay some of your debt, make you an officer and give you benefits out the wazzoo. Pick a nice job and sit back, relax and collect.

  3. I am not an expert on this, but I imagine the Coast Guard would be a good service to check up on.
