I've never had a camcorder so I'm totally new to this. I've done some research but I'm still lost ... :(

There are a few things I'd like to have in a camcorder:

1. Good video quality in low light. Low light means indoor for me (NOT totally dark!).

2. Mic-in (just to have the option for an upgrade later) - do I really need this? Is the sound quality bad with built-in microphones?

3. Huge zoom is not important for me,

4. good picture and sound quality is!

Here is the list of camcorders available in stores nearby (within my budget):

Canon ZR-100

Canon ZR-200

  1. The Canon ZR800, ZR900 and ZR930 are the only ones with a mic in jack. I would lean toward those - better to have the jack and not use it than need it and not have it.

A few of the Sonys you listed have an "Active Interface Shoe" which can use special mics only Sony camcorders can use.

None of these camcorders has manual audio control.

If you can control the lighting, turn on a light... or get a video light.
