Which Nikon dslr camera should I get? (I am a beginner)?

I'm new at photography and I would like to purchase a Nikon dslr camera and I don't know which one has the best quality or the best performace. I would like the camera to be under $800. Any ideas?

Being new to photography I would be grateful to recieve any advice, tips, or any helpful ideas to help me become a better photographer.

  1. the new Nikon D60 is a good DSLR for beginners.

    the kit lens includes a vibration reduction technology..w/c can help stabilize the image during camera shake.

  4. The D40, which is now advertised as a kit with a lens for $449, is a great starting one.

    Try going to a real camera store and ask to look at what its features are and feel how it handles. Even if you end up buying at Microcenter or Best Buy or Circuit City the trip to a real photography place will be with your while.

    As far as photo advice, if you subscribe to Ritz Camera's emails then each month they include tips (among the ads) on subjects like photographing kids, photographing fireworks, photographing sports, etc.

    You could also look around for a local photo club or for a community education class for beginners. If you do buy the camera at a real photo store they often include classes for beginners during the first year after your purchase.
