Question:

Which OS to use Windows XP or the 64-bit version?

I would like to know if the motherboard I currently have which is the 5200 Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Board Bundle + 2GB DDR2 Memory or ECS GeForce6100PM-M2 motherboard will let me install Windows XP Professional if not what will?

  1. Sure you can.

    With the specification you have, you can also install Vista.


  2. Yes it will. Just stick with the regular 32 bit version. There are not that many applications that need 64 bit at the moment.

  3. My PC is more or less the same configuration.

    the greatest problem is getting 64bit drivers for all your devices.

    Unfortunately, only 64bit processors are available while remaining devices are 32bit only.

    So your 64bit OS will run in 32bit mode actually.  dont waste your money unnecessarily on 64bit OSes.

    32bit OSes are stable and reliable

    i used both of them

    the only improvement i found between 32bit and 64bit is only in video ripping..and encoding activities

    64bit OSes are a few minutes or some times few seconds faster in dvd ripping or video encoding activities


  4. since Microsoft is not going to be maintaining XP much longer

    as they say

    I would go for Vista (choking as i type that)
