Question:

Which Of These Is Making Me So Thirsty?

The doctor has me taking the following:

Vitamins C and E

cranberry

cinnamon

fish oil

iron

horse chestnut

1/2 teaspoon baking soda morning and night

These are for anemia, circulatory health, blood sugar control, and to prevent UTI's. I feel a lot better but since I started taking them I've been so thirsty. Does anyone know which could be causing it? Thanks.

  1. Hi!

I think it is the baking soda that is making you thirsty.

This isn't really an answer to your question, but I would REALLY recommend getting some probiotics (preferrably the kind that need to be refridgerated).  I have been plagued by UTIs for the past 10 years, and since I started taking these, I haven't gotten one in more than a year.

    Good luck!

  2. baking soda

I'm guessing its not a real doctor that has you on this odd assortment of things.

Iron...sure, that will help if you have iron deficiency anemia, though dietary iron is better absorbed.  Eat a steak.

  3. I would venture a guess that it might be the baking soda, as that is a sodium which will make you feel thirsty. But you're not taking all that much.

I'm thinking that perhaps you are urinating more than usual (which would be good for flushing out the urinal tract), and that is causing you to be slightly dehydrated, and therefore thirsty.

If you're worried about it, talk to your doctor. In the meantime, drink plenty of fluids.

  4. I think the cranberry and horsechesnut are diuretics, so that could possibly be it.
