  1. Any mouse will work as long as it's a USB mouse.

  2. any!!!!

  3. i have a dell and a micro and both them work with both op systems i think that mouse drivers are available on both op system for just about any optical mouse made today. if not you can always go to the linux forum and some one there can either write you a compatable driver or steer you to a d/l site for one. come on linux is'nt some monster ytou have to be afraid of .it's a better faster and more stable op sts than any copy of windows ever written you just have to use your brain a little rather than sit and click a mouse all the time. heck if it were'nt for answers and chat i could take the k/b off my windows x/p machine.

  4. In my experience, any mouse will work with either system.  Whether USB or PS/2 (the type you appear to have).

  5. Any generic USB optical mouse will work in both. I have Logitech mice and they are both usb and optical and they both work fine in both environments.

  6. In my experience with Linux (on Ubuntu and Arch), I haven't run into any mouses that are not compatible. I've used various Logitech, HP, and other mouses, all of which have worked (with all buttons) on both Windows and Linux without any driver installs or configuration.

In short, you should be fine unless you have a really, really outfitted mouse that works ONLY with Windows. Which you probably don't have.

EDIT - Well, seeing as your old mouse doesn't have a USB input, it won't work. :P However, any mouse WITH a USB input cable will work fine. If you have an HP mouse already, I'd suggest going to an HP dealer and asking them to trade it in for a newer mouse at a reduced price. That's what I did.
