  1. A link to a chart Joystiq knocked up a few deays ago, so it lists all consoles out now and yet to come.

    Ps2 playback listed at bottom.

  2. 20,60,80gb have backwards compatibility.there is going to be a new 80gb ps3 like the 40gb.it is exactly what the 40gb is, just a bigger HDD.

the 20 and 60gb r discontinued.they r gonna discontinue the 40gb soon but repllace it with the new 80gb.and they r still gonna make the old 80gb

  3. currently there is no production of a ps3 that plays ps2 games the only systems that did was the 60gb and the old 80 gb

the 20 40 and new 80 gb does not play ps2 games and also the new 160 gb will not play ps2 games new 160 gb will be out in november

  4. Depends on which model you get.

The 20, 60, and the ORIGINAL 80GB can play PS2 games.

The 20 and 60GB have the PS2 GPU and CPU. These 2 models are best with backwards compatibility.

The ORIGINAL 80GB plays some PS2 games. It has the PS2 GPU, but uses software to emulate the CPU. Some PS2 games do not work properly on the original 80GB. You can check here for compatibility.

The 40GB and the 80GB Core that just came out is not compatible with PS2 games.
