Which player, that is on your team's current roster , do you feel should have their jersey retired by the team when all is said and done? Which is your team and who is the player? Do not include any player that is already having or had that honor happen. I am asking about current rostered players.

  1. The obvious answer for my team will be Sidney Crosby. While he will never perhaps exceed the exploits of the franchise's greatest player, Crosby will indeed become a star. He will be the third Pittsburgh Penguin to be honored with a jersey retirement.

  2. Sabres

well if u would of asked this a year ago, i would of said danny briere or chris drury or brian campbell.

    so much for that.

  3. whoever said roenick and chelios for chicago i disagree, they arent playing for them anymore and arent currently on the roster

Quite possibly, Kane or Toews who both have the potential to be great someday...not saying they already arent

  4. My team is the Avalanche, and Joe Sakic should have his number retired, hopefully not too soon, though.

  5. Team : Pittsburgh Penguins

Well seeing how my team is young it is hard to tell who should have their Jersey retired. I'd say the closest one would be Gonchar, but he hasn't been with the team very long.

So it depends on how careers go with the young players the Penguins have. If Hossa stays with the team, and contributes for us for 7 years, then yeah he should have his jersey retired.

Malkin, if he stays with us and contributes like he has for his first 2 seasons then yeah he will be there too.

Crosby, it is sorta a given he'll get his jersey retired if he keeps up his stats. Since he is the face of the Penguins, and the face of the NHL for that matter.

Fleury... if he keeps showing the stats he did in the playoffs, of course he will be there.

So the Penguins are very difficult to see who's jersey deserves to be retired. If players like Hossa, Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, and Staal stay with the team and help us win 2 or 3 Stanley Cups. Then of course all of their jerseys may be retired. But old players like Roberts obviously do not deserve their jersey retired.

  6. New Jersey Devils - Martin Brodeur, no question. If Brodeur wasn't on the team, then I say Sergei Brylin. He's been with the Devils his entire career, won all 3 Cups with us, and he's a very hard worker.

  7. No one on the Rangers right now... well, possibly Lundqvist, but it depends on the rest of his career. Right now, he's obviously not a good candidate to have his number retired, but hopefully he will be soon!

But yeah... there's no one on our roster who should have their number retired by the team at this point.

  8. Ducks - Selanne I guess, he's too bouncy but he's won championships with 2 different teams

Bruins - Nobody current (no not Chara or Thornton)

Thrashers - Ask me again in 5 years (Kovalchuk, Exelby)

Buffalo - Ask me again in 5 years (Afinegenov)

Carolina - Ask me again in 10 years (Staal)

Calgary - Ask me again in 10 years (Kipper, Regher)

    Colorado - Sakic, Forsberg, Hejduk

    Chicago - Roenick, Chelios

Dallas - Modano, Turco, Zubov, Letinen

Detroit - Lidstrom, Osgood, Holmstrom, Draper

    Edmonton - Nobody

    Florida - Nobody

    LA - Nobody

    Montreal - Chelios, Koivu

New Jersey - Broduer, Elias, Brylin

Isles - Nobody (no not Dipietro) ok maybe Rick Dipietro

    Rangers - Nobody

Ottawa - Alfredsson if they can win

    Philadelphia - Nobody

Pitt - Jagr, Ask me again in 15 years (crosby)

    Coyotes - Shane Doan

Sharks - Nobody lol ok Nabokov maybe, Marleau

    Blues - Nobody

Vancouver - Trevor Linden, Naslund, Ohlund, it would be awesome to see the Sedins have there's retired they just need to win

    Washington - Kolzig

    TBL - Lecavalier, St. Louis

Toronto - Mats Sundin I guess, Kaberle, they never win

Columbus - Ask me again in 10 years (nash, zherdev)

Minnesota - Ask me again in 10 years (gaborik)

Nashville - Ask me again in 5 years (legwand)

IHow can you Wings fans not say HOLMSTROM? He's going to play his whole career here and he's better every year. He never stops. I would rather see Tomas Holmstrom than Chris Osgood honestly. In 5 years you will change your tone because maybe it's that he's only been here a decade and for 4 championships. He hasn't quite reached Lidstrom status of 17 years or Yzerman status of 22 years but he will.

  9. detroit red wings

    #5 Nicklas Lidstrom

obivously the second best if not the best defenceman to ever have played the game.. his leadership and his poise are phenomenal. everytime hes on the ice everyone is aware and when they cross his blueline they usually dont get far..

    #33 Kris Draper

hes been with the team forever getting him for a dollar was a complete steal. hes been there for our latest four cups and is a key franchise player. how would they avs rivalry have started if it werent from being hit from behind

    #13 Pave Datsyuk

i think when its all said and done datsyuk will be hung next two the others in the rafters. people will say hes still young and u dnt know if h**l stay with them forver but let me tell u he will.. holand wont let him go and i dnt see zetterberg leaving either

    #40 Henrik Zetterberg

    same as datsyuk

  10. I'm a huge Minnesota Wild so I'm going to have to say Marian Gaborik in a few years if he stays with the team.. he's been with team from the start, through the rough and good times, he's been there and he's the teams all-time leading points leader.

Oh and Martin Brodeur for the New Jersey Devils. He's arguable the best or close to it the best goalie ever to play in the NHL. He helped the Devils to a number of Stanley Cups!

Last but not least has to be Joe Sakic. This guy has been with the Avalanche for a long time, is a great leader who produced so many points with the team and has been a huge asset with them for a long time He has to get his jersey retired by the Colorado Avalanche!

  11. Until a couple days ago I wanted to see #12 hanging in the Bank Atlantic Center.

  12. BRODEUR

  13. Joe Sakic and possibly Peter Forsberg

  14. Detroit - Nicklas Lidstrom. He is one of the greatest d's to ever play in the league, has won the Norris Trophy six times, and he is a strong leader for the Wings.

Columbus - Rick Nash. He is always there for the Jackets, has been with the club through most of it's existence, and he is a fit captain since Foote left. He is always there for Columbus, carrying them.

  15. besides sakic, since we all know his great 19 will hang forever in pepsi center, i say milan hejduk's 23. his been with the avs forever, and he's a great player.

  16. Niklas Lidstrom will have # 5 retired in Detroit. I wonder if they'll do Drapers # 33 eventually...

  17. Vincent Lecavalier

  18. My team is the Senators:

The obvious choice is Daniel Alfredsson

  19. Anaheim-Teemu Selanne, he's done so much to not get his jersey raised

New Jersey-Scott Niedermayer, he helped New Jersey in their Stanley Cup wins

Dallas-Mike Modano, one of the best US born players

Detroit-Chris Chelios, same reason as Modano

  20. my team is the Leafs and i hope they hang Tomas Kaberle's jersey. they're obviously going to hang Sundin's so no need to mention that one.

  21. My favorite team is the Canadiens and I'd have to say...nobody.

Possibly Saku Koivu or Patrice Brisebois will receive the honor...but they aren't really of the same caliber as previous players that have their numbers retired.

Chris Chelios is not on the Canadien's roster now, but he should probably have his number retired.

  22. NJ Devils Marty B & Patrick Elias....Hopefully Zach Parise is a Lifer too.

  23. #18 Mike Richards, Flyers

But it's really too early to say because I feel the Flyers best talent is in their young players. Their veterans are good, but not to the point where I feel that they deserve retirement.

  24. Well, Glen Wesley did just retire and will get his jersey retired, so I'll go with Brind'Amour. Great leader and great career with us.

  25. The Leafs doesn't retire jerseys, but they do hang them up in the rafters, like Keon's. That said, Sundin is the obvious choice, and I think Kaberle's number will too.

  26. Chicago

Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, hopefully one day

  27. Detroit Red Wings

    # 5 Nick Lidstrom

He's a Great Captain. One of The Best DefenseMen in the NHL. Plays more than 30 in a game and has been with the Wings since 1989-1990. He still has alot more to show the NHL as Being the 1st European Captain to win a Stanley Cup.

  28. Nobody yet. I think that if Bergeron sticks with the team, and winds up being the player I think he can be, than him. But nobody right now.

  29. Number 5, Mister Norris Trophy. Nick Lidstrom hanging right next to Yzerman's 19.

  30. Wings- Obviously Lidstrom, possibly Osgood.

  31. Hmm. No one sticks out at all on the Sabres. I'll go with Vanek because he can and will put up big numbers and because he's stuck in Buffalo for the next six or so seasons due to his long contract. Buffalo hasn't had any players that have been around the team for very long(Afinogenov has been around the longest and he will be gone by next season(hopefully sooner) so its tough to say.
