Which Remmington model should I purchase?

Im looking into buying a Remmington 870 12 gauge shot gun for recreational shooting and home defense (but mostly recreational shooting). Their are many models such as the wingmaster and express but those only hold four rounds (6 would be best). Then there are the tactical and marine but those have do not have the blue metal or wood finishes.

So the question would be: Which remmington model would be best?

  1. What you can do is purchase the Remington Marine Magnum. Install the wood stock onto this shotgun.... These stocks are always available on ebay either new, used or removed from a new 870.... They arent to expensive and would make your 870 different from any other 870 out there....

    870 Marine magnum....

Or do it to this regular 7 shot synthetic......

The Remington 870 is generaly a very easy gun to customize.... Get one that holds the amount of ammo you want and change the stocks....

Have you considered owning 2 or more shotguns? theres no law that says you cant... What I did was buy 6 over the course of a couplle of years.... Ones an 7 shot synthetic, ones a 870 express in wood, another is an 870 super mag... etc, etc.... These are fun to shoot.....

  2. just get a basic one. They make them very customizable you could get anythin you want for it, light scope, recoil absorber, etc.

  3. The standard Remington Express is a lot of gun for the money.  I would suggest waiting till about September to buy any new shotgun.  For the past two years, Remington came-out with some rebate programs to help sell the 870 Express shotguns for the fall hunting seasons.  Not saying they will for a third year in a row, but if they do run a rebate, it will be in the fall.

I prefer the Wingmaster guns because of the fit and finish, but if you are a novice hunter and not a collector, just buy the Express model.  Also, don't rule-out a good used 870.  But, get this.  The used Express models are often priced almost the same as the brand new Express models in some gunshops.  If you can find a good used Wingmaster at a reasonable price versus a new one, maybe go with that.

Lastly, the Remington 870 is probably the ultimate shotgun.  These guns have been around for many years.  Parts are easy to find and service is cheap.  You just can't go wrong with a Remington 870.

  4. Rem 870 Express magnum.

Just becaise it can shoot 3" magnums does not mean you have to shoot the magnum loads. I shoot mostly 2 3/4" in mine but 3" steel for Ducks and Geese. It gives you an option.

  5. get the one you want, then spend about 30$ on a magazine tube extender. if you get the express, you'll have to file off two detents inside the tube, it takes only a few minutes.
