Which Romance languages do you think sound most alike?

I’m guessing most of the answers will include the major Romance languages (i.e. Italian, French, Portuguese, Romanian and Spanish), but feel free to throw the lesser known Romance languages out there as well.

And dialectal forms of the Romance languages would be great, too.

For example, I read in a book that Mexican Spanish & Peruvian Spanish sound more like Italian than most other variations of Spanish.

I think it’d be best if this was limited to phonetics, and grammar was left alone as a language can sound a lot like another, but at the same time it can be similar to a different language because of how things are constructed. That throws a lot of things off.

I would say Spanish and Italian.

Italian and spanish are the most alike latin languages... also french has many words pretty close to spanish.

Romanian and romansch are totally different. Romanian is somehow close to italian, but has many influences from its slavic neighbors, and also from turkish and greek languages, due the fact that Romania was under ottoman empire control for hundreds of years.

French sounds very different from all other. Romanian sounds like a mixture of  Italian, Portuguese and a little Spanish. Italian and Spanish sound somewhat similar. Catalan sounds somewhat French spoken with Romanian accent. It’s difficult to say, it’s a very complex mixture.

Argentinian Spanish has a lot of influences from Italian and they sound very similar. However, in general I think Portuguese and Spanish because I can actually understand some Portuguese from only my knowledge of Spanish!

Actually, Mexican Spanish and Peruvian Spanish are not dialects.  They are Spanish.  And they don´t sound anything like Italian.  They sound like Spanish!  Mexican is a bit closer to Andaluz, and Peruvian is more close to Castellano, but still, all Spanish.

I suppose Catalán sounds close to French-languedoc (to me), and I suppose that Gallego sounds close to Portuguese, but I only know a little of Gallego by the writing, only.

And THOSE are dialectical comparisons.

I don´t really know what Romanian sounds like, but I recognize from the writing, that it is close to Latin, and I have absolutely zero experience with Romansch.
