Hey :)

Im trying to decide which Rugby position would suit me best

i used to play Second Row in highschool and was quite succesful for about a year where i fancied a change to being on the wings but it hasn't been as entertaining as i thought

im 6ft4 , 13 stone 2 , lots of energy , fast runner but i like to pace myself rather then use all my energy at once

which do you think would suit me best? or is there a position i havent considerd?

thankyou! :)

  1. Because of your height second row sounds good, although you dont weigh that much. Are you 18 years old + if so you probably wont gain any weight naturally. If your strong and powerful then flankers, or centre would be good, just them out see if you like them :)

  2. Depends what sort of thing you like doing. If you enjoy contact and tackle well and have explosive power then I'd say blindside flanker.

If you are agile enough and have good hand-eye coordination and can pass both sides alright, then possibly in the centres. More likely outside centre.

If you can kick and have no fuss catching a high ball then fullback could suit also. You probably get the most rest at times there, but at other times it can be constant work covering the field.

Your height and workrate rule out the front row, you've played second row already so obviously don't like that (fair enough - what a tough grind), anywhere in the halves is out as well, as is openside flanker and winger where you obviously don't enjoy it either. Leaves the other positions I've mentioned. Fit you skillset to the right one.

  3. If you like getting amongst it and a bit of grind go as a loose forward. if you are quick and strong in the upper body openside. not so quick and powerfully built blindside or No8.

If you want to be in the backs try centre. Good size is important for trying to crash through tackles to break the line or being able to take a couple of defenders out in a tackle and being able to release the ball to support players.

  4. doggie-style would probly be best...I personally like missionary though...hope you and the team have fun!

  5. Your 6ft4! Gods gift to any rugby coach!  Stick to second row! And cut out that "I like to pace myself rather then use all my energy at once" c**p! If your lazy go play lawn bowls.

The tight five requires a high work rate and alot of physical labour. If your a bit soft "harden up"! The best way to harden up is "game time". The more you play, the more you get use to it. Bulking up is simple although not essential. Eat the right foods. "protein". Do heaps of strength work. But more importantly, keep up your speed and fitness. If your a lock who's fit, agile and can move around the field quickly, then you will really go places.

Remember, with your height you've already got one foot in the door. Use it to your advantage. Stick to lock and "excel" in it! Don't be caught up in this diverse player c**p!!!

  6. you should try playing full-back......because according 2 your body weight and ur height it really tells that ur not fit to play that position ( wing, 2nd five-8)....

  7. Be a flanker, this is a lot of fun you get stuck in there. You have to be very fit as you work a lot. Your choice. Be a centre you would probally be unstopable, if you're good runner.
