I am a grade 11 high school student that has currently just made my schools varsity rugby team.

I am roughly 5'11. 145 pounds. I have quick feet and can jump very very high. (not that jumping matters)

I have played hockey for 11 years and can handle a bit of roughness. I have an athletic body type that looks good on the

beach but isn't to to strong. I don't feel like wrecking my body in this sport.... I want to run with the ball often as this is my strong point. I'm sure my coach will put me where he thinks i belong but I am curious myself...... I'm thinking a winger... what position should I play?

  1. the wing is boring as h**l first off if your team is not that great then you wont see much action and the action you do see will be you making tackles.. centers is where the big hits happen.. and lots of people get demolished.. but then again if your really good then you wont get touched.. heres my opinion

try full back and try wing see if you like it first.. full back requires a good boot but that can come with practise.. you kinda sound like my size when I was your age and I play scrumhalf and I would die if i didnt.. so try scrumhalf too its all in personal preference.. but i would suggest scrumhalf.

  2. Wing is a good choice to start off with, or any of the backs really

if you can't kick well then stay away from fullback or fly half

Scrum Half's dont get tackled that much if you dont run with the ball.  But going on the occasional break won't kill ya

    so i recommend

    Wing

    Outside Centre

    Scrumhalf

  3. outside centre

  4. from your hieght and your wieght and not felling to wreck your body or get hurt too much

you are defintley a winger but just keep working out you need it

  5. Actually, jumping matters, a lot. Winger is where you will most likely end up, given your weight. Wingers that can jump are very useful, for keeping balls in bounds, and more things.

Wingers on average don't run with the ball often, but when they do, they are expected to be really really fast and agile, able to sidestep, juke, etc.

You'll get injuries, that is unavoidable, but the trick is to go to practice and be fit, and learn technique correctly, which cuts down on injury rate dramatically. Wingers are known for dodgeing defenders as opposed to taking it into contact, which is often what forwards do.

  6. As i was reading your description of your self a vivid picture of a

Wing or outside back was emerging.

A wing is usually expected to be the quickest in the back line while outside backs need step and deceptive runners.
