I have just purchased a Nikon d40 and I was wondering what brand of SD card is best for it. I am looking for something that's fast and at the same time that will let me store more images.

  1. How fast usually depends on the camera not the card.

I've used The original brand of SD card and Kingston...  I have really not found a difference in how fast the card works.  The greater the storage capacity the greater number of images....

  2. I would recommend a 4GB SDHC (2GB+ cards are marked high capacity). Get one of the fast cards. SDHC cards are identified for their data transfer speed as Class 2, Class 4, or Class 6. I suggest at least a Class 4, if not a Class 6.

I got the Transcend 4GB Class 6 card from Amazon. It's cheap and works great.

Added later: Finally got around to checking. I can get between about 550 raw images in my 4GB card for the D40.  JPG depends on compression level selected -- but lots for all cases.

Have fun with the camera. It's a terrific camera.

  3. Try scan disk ultra or toshiba. i use kingston and pendrive normal speed SD card, it works for me..

  4. SONY but a little pricey

SanDisk cheap but takes longer to record (not much of a differance)

  5. I have the d70 and the booklet recommended sandisk ultra II. I have since used the extreme iIII and have been happy with those, too. (The d70 uses compact flash, but I think you would be equally satisfied staying with Sandisk.)  I have used PNY and Lexar in other cameras and the color was off, that is why I stay with Sandisk.
