Question:

Which SLR Camera should I get?

Okay, so I have recently discovered that i love photography as a hobby. I've been using my regular point and shoot camera for a while but I would now like to dive into the wonderful world of SLR cameras!

First I would like some suggestions on which camera I should get. I want a Canon SLR, but since I'm just beginning to develop this hobby I would like to stick to a budget around $600, but that can change.

I also want to know what feature allows you to focus on one thing and blur out the background.

Thanks!

  1. Canon makes a good DSLR so do Nikon and Sony."I own a Sony."

Canon rebel,.Nikon D40 and Sony Alpha are all in your price range.

Blurring the background is done by shooting with the apature wide open. Some point and shoot camera's allow this adjustment.

Canon and Nikon are the big names and have more of a following and more lenses and other extra's. But I have never found it hard to find anything for my Sony. Pick up and hold each camera, one will feel bettor in your hands than the others chose that one. In the $600 dollar range they are all pretty close in performance.

  2. You can look at

Canon XT (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos...  or Canon XS (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos... )

    Canon XTi (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos... ) or Canon XSi (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos... )

I'm more of a fan of the XT and XTi myself (and now that we have the XS asnd XSi the price will have dropped for the others)

The feature you're looking for is called depth of  field and is  done by controlling the aperture. (I'm pretty sure you can do this on any DSLR with the right lens)

They're not too expensive and give you the quality you need. They're great to learn (however, I learned most my DSLR stuff on my friends Canon 20D).

  3. check nikon dslrs they are nice .they higher you go the better they get .canon is secondary.

  4. The XT, XS, and XTi should all be in your price range. Also, you may want to consider the 20D as you can get it on ebay for $450.

If you want to do some serious background blur ("bokeh" as it's known) you'll need a lens with a decently big aperture. I would suggest you take a look at the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8. You can buy it new for around $100 and with an aperture of 1.8 you'll be able to get some serious bokeh.
