Hi.

I am looking to purchase a 40" BRAVIA HDTV. This will be my first HDTV (currently on a 32" SDTV). I have decided on Sony over other brands since they have proved reliable for me over the past decade (hope its a good choice). Anyway I am currently deciding between these 2 Sony models that have just come out in the market:

40" BRAVIA® V Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV $1500

40" BRAVIA® S Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV $1200

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665381955#

Price difference is about $200-300 between the V and S series. Which one should I go for and is it worth getting the V series over the S series? I want something that is futureproof for atleast 5++ years without me having to replace it.

Thanks.

  1. Actually, both models are new for this year, and both are now 1080p sets.  The first answerer was probably thinking of the old 40S3000 models, which weren't 1080p.  The biggest performance difference between the new V and S series is that the V series has motionflow, which does make a big difference with hi-def movies using an HDMI cable.  It basically does a much better job of representing the original framerate of film material in new movies on blu-ray.  I've compared both sets side-by-side, and there is definitely a noticeable improvement in the V series, especially during fast action scenes.  They're both very nice TVs, though, so I'd suggest spending the extra $300 if it's in the budget, but the S series won't let you down if not.

  2. Both are great choise the S series has 1 more HDMI port, I would buy the V series, It has Full HD, and basically It has the same features of the S series

  3. From looking at the specs, I can't see any compelling reason to spend $300 more on the V model.  It appears that the S series is newer, and my represent a price reduced series from Sony.
