Question:

Which Stallion?

Basically I'm looking for some advice my mare is due to go to a stud this Sunday.

http://360.yahoo.com/profile-Hx.thQ8.aapDPF4_bYLm (my mare, sorry about the small pictures)

There are two great stallions to choose from at the stud:

http://www.kedrah.com/luxz.php (LUX Z)

http://www.kedrah.com/ricardoz.php (RICARDO Z)

People have recommended I go for Ricardo Z and I know a few lovely foals sired by him, but my gut feeling is that I should go for Lux Z I really like him and think he would complement my mare.

I'm just wondering if you guys have any opinions on either stallion. The foal would be for my own use to replace it’s mother down the way (mainly show jumping and some eventing).

Thank you in advance, all your input, critical or otherwise is greatly appreciated.

  1. quite honestly it depends on your mare. If she is fairly heavy and you want something lighter i would go for lux z, but for something chunkier with more substance (ie for xc) i would go for ricardo z! they both have impecible conformation, but lux propably looks better as he is under saddle. Some of the plainest stallions can throw the best foals. I like maximillian stallions, aswel as Bandmaster, who i have used many times on my brood mares. I would go for ricardo, as he will probaly throw something with a lot of substance, elegance and good conformation, as wel as outstanding performance. Also, i have had 2 mares out of Lux z, and they were not exactly tempermental, but definatly had a slight attitude which was hard work, but they both have great potential. Good luck.

  2. go with LUX Z

that is were your gut is and i think he will go great with your mare.

  3. I'd want to see a confo shot of all of them to decide.

Ask the breeder to send you a confo shot of both of them.

Sure wish Lux had a confo shot.  God he's got a gorgeous head! Look at his expression.

    Nevermind...he sold me. :)

  4. I like Lux Z better. I especially like the fact that he has Cor De La Bryere, Lady Killer, Lord and Caletto I in his bloodlines, very nice!

  5. Well, I like Ricardo Z for looks and he is good....but something is screaming Lux Z at me....I'de go with Lux Z.

  6. I reccomend you go for Lux Z as he has sired many foals and has competed in many major events. He is good looking and would complement your mare well.Good luck for the Foal!!!!

  7. I like Lux Z better as he is a bit lighter weight.  He may suit more for eventing to give the speed going over the XC stage.

  8. Lux Z. He will compliment your mare beautifully. I hope the foal is every bit as gorgeous as your mare! And finally some worthwhile breeding! not just questions like "should I breed my mustang to the black stallion next door?".

  9. I'd go with Lux Z.  He has a nicer overall look in my opinion.

  10. I like Ricardo Z he seems really nice

  11. Breeding all depends on bloodlines and Fame. Its to bad you dont know your mares Dam and Sire because we were going to breed our Friesian mare to a Famous Friesian Stallion, until we realized that they had the same Sire. Well as long as you did your reasearch, then your ok.

  12. I took a look at their pedigrees, i think LUX Z is the best choice. His pedigree is amazing. Plus he has better confirmation, hes a beautiful horse. I predict he'd produce you the nice, athletic foal your looking for. Hopefully, you'll get a beautiful face marking like his. (:

  13. Well, I LOVE ricardo. I love his head carriage, and he looks rather tall.

Although Lux would probably be more of the horse that I would do showjumping with, he looks like he enjoys it, and you can see the flame in his eye.

Overall, i would go for Lux.

    bytheway, your mare is amazing.

i myself did showjumping a while ago at my old barn, but never like you in the picture.

    good luck.

  14. I like Lux Z

  15. Lux looks and sounds more improving that ricardo

  16. Lux Z is my choice.  He seems more refined and classier.  I like his athleticism, too.

  17. I like Lux Z....

I even thought that before I read the rest of your question.

Lux Z has nicer conformation I think, and looks more flashy overall.

Good Luck with whoever you choose though! I bet the foal will be awesome!!!

  18. you should go with the stallion that completes your mare. take a good look at her, and access her faults, then go for the stallion that is realy strong in those areas.

  19. After careful consideration of all the info, I'd choose Lux Z

  20. Wow...the good news is, you could make this decision in the dark by throwing darts at photographs while helplessy drunk to the point that your lack of inhibitions has rendered you at least partially naked...and not go wrong with either stallion.

Both great performers AND top producers.

But I like Lux too.  Something about that headshot just takes the breath away.  You know, when all other factors are equal, you can nit pick about stuff like that, and color, etc...I wish people understood that.

And it's fun to answer a breeding question that doesn't make a person go "GAAAAAAAAAH!"

    Thanks.

  21. i like lux  z he looks to have a nicer confermation

  22. Both of those stallions are yummy.  Downright delicious, even.  I would say stick with the tried and true fella, but you're right - I think Lux WOULD compliment your mare very nicely.

As usual, I was expecting to see Backyard Bernie's purdy kolored grade colts...I was so VERY pleasantly surprised.  So surprised, in fact, that I am going to say something I never thought I'd get the chance to tell anyone:  it doesn't *really* matter which one you go with quality-wise, because BOTH of these handsome and accomplished gentlemen are tops.  Lovely, just lovely!

  23. I think Lux Z would be a better stud to breed with, sure the other one is nice too, but i really like lux z. his accomplishments seem to be greater, as do his looks. he is a nice looking horse.

    Good luck to you!
