Cross river state is located in the South-South Nigeria which is also known as the Niger-Delta (The oil producing States). Cross River is a State that has put Nigeria in the tourism map because of its luxurious and rich culture. Cross River is also home to River Drills, Chimpanzees, Baboons and lots of other wildlife animals. The state is historically rich, economically buoyant and tourism-wise, it is blessed with the best From the soaring plateaus of the mountain tops of Obudu to the Rain forests of Afi, from the Waterfalls of Agbokim and Kwa to the spiralling ox-bow Calabar River which provides sights and images of the Tinapa Business Resort, Calabar Marina, Calabar Residency Museum and the Calabar Slave Park along its course, there is always a thrilling adventure awaiting the eco-tourist visiting Cross River State. Cross River apart from being the first Capital of Nigeria, has a rich history of Missionaries settling and changing events. Example is the Legendary Scottish Missionary; Mary-Slassor, who stopped the killing of twins not only in Cross River State but in Nigeria, Africa and if you permit me to say, the world at large. Mary-Slessor’s home is now one of the most visited historical site in the state’s capital, Calabar, as tourists would want to see the home of the iconic woman who single handedly changed history. Apart from Mary-Slessor, other Missionary sites to visits include that of the Irish Sister of Charity, Rev Mother Mary Charles Magdalene Walker amongst others. Other tourist attractions are the Ikom Monoliths (a series of volcanic-stone monoliths constructed sometime between 2500 BC and 1 AD), the Mary Slessor Tomb, Calabar Drill Monkey Sanctuary, Cross River National Park, Afi Mountain walkway canopy, Kwa falls, Agbokim waterfalls, Tinapa Business Resort and the annual Calabar Carnival that takes place during the Christmas period. Calabar Carnival festival, also tagged "Africa's Biggest Street Party", was created as part of the vision of making the Cross River State in Nigeria, the number one tourist destination for Nigerians and tourist all over the world. The carnival which begin on every 31st November and last till 31 December has boosted the cultural mosaic of Nigeria people while entertaining the millions of spectators within and outside the State, and boosting industry for all stakeholders. The event has hosted top Nigerian musicians, Nollywood Actors, Politicians and international artists. Over the last years international artists like, the late Lucky Dube, Akon, Fat Joe, Young Jeezy, Nelly, Kirk Franklin, Keri Hilson, and many more has thrilled the large crowd of Nigerians and tourist from outside the country. Cross River State can be accessed by air through the Margaret Ekpo International Airport at Calabar. There are daily flights to Calabar from Lagos and Abuja serviced by airlines such as Arik Airlines and Aero Contractors. Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, is now the leading tourism city of Nigeria. Visitors from different parts of Nigeria and overseas, come to the city in large numbers all year around. Welcome to Calabar, Destination Cross River!!!
