Which Supermoto bike as a first bike?

Hey guys, I asked a question about dual sport bikes earlier, and decided that I want a supermoto. The one that really stands out is the drz400sm, but I was wondering if there were any better bikes out there. I won't be off roading too much, but the roads around here are pretty bad. Oh and, how much is insurance on one of these for an 18 year old male? Because if the bike is 100 - 120 a month I hope it's not more than 100/month.

Cycle World mag listed the WR250X as one of it's top starter bikes. But it's also pretty pricey for a 250cc machine.

Depending on where you live, you might see if there are Husqvarna dealers anywhere around you. Their bikes are nice, but if you don't have anyone near you for parts, it wouldn't be worth it.

I think the WR250X and the DR-Z400sm are both great bikes...

Your insurance should be well under 100/month. But your agent will give you a quote on the phone, and give you a specific number.

i have been looking at the drz400sm in black plastic. think its a very sharp bike but as a first bike i might get a smaller one just to be safe and it would be cheaper since your on a budget.

The Yamaha WR250X is another inexpensive choice for a first SM.

A 250 without a doubt would be the safest and CHEAPEST investment you can make. But basicly your best bet is to combine them all, sit on them all, and decide what you can get in your area. But the biggest thing is, call your insurance company, and many different other companies and get a quote with an agent. Get your quotes in MANY MANY different places, as many as you can. They all very amazingly differently.

And most important nomatter where you go, be careful and wear your protective gear. And have fun : )

the aprillia.  it's a twin instead of a super single and so is smoother and has better top end.
