  1. I think the first rule about Sydney and property buy, rent of share is that is you can see the water it's going to be more expensive.

Suburbs like Lewisham & Petersham are quite nice and have good trasnport links

  2. Rushcutters bay is a relatively good suburb, it is by the water, but you can buy an appartment for not too much. It is only a 5 minute drive from the Sydney CBD, and a 15 minute drive from places such as Bondi beach.

  3. Perhaps try Glebe or Newtown...They are very close to the city AND quite a trendy place to live in. They can be a little pricey, though not as expensive as the North shore or the Eastern suburbs.

Although, Stanmore and leichhardt are cheaper and reasonably close to the city.

    Summer Hill is quite central.

All these places are reasonably safe...avoid, as others have stated, the south-western suburbs...there crime rates are  higher and are isolated from most places.

  4. Inexpensive? Everything in sydney is getting more expensive by the day.

As Dan has said. The south west is dangerous. But it is cheaper, but then again my neighbours (3 of them) Have sold their houses because they cant afford it anymore.. I live in the south west. There is a high crime rate. But I've left my doors open by accident twice for a few hours while i went to the shops, no one was home, and my house wasnt broken into. But the house behind mine was robbed a few months ago.

Check online for some houses, there should be a site for it somewhere.

  5. If you care about safety, avoid south-western Sydney. I live there and I gotta tell you the crime levels are high.

In my personal opinion, you can either try southern Sydney or the inner west. They're safe but the prices may be higher - not as high as the North Shore and Eastern Suburbs though.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Possibly somewhere in the Ryde area? Lots of apartments, on the train line, not overly expensive
