Question:

Which TRADE should I take...if any?

I have two trade proposals I'm looking at...

2B- DAN UGGLA & OF- ALFONSO SORIANO (me)

-for-

2B- BRANDON PHILLIPS & SP- RYAN DEMPSTER

I really need pitching, but to give up Soriano for a guy like Dempster...is it worth it? My trade partner also has Joe Saunders, Cole Hamels, and Rich Harden...would one of those make the deal more worth while?

or...

3B- EVAN LONGORIA & OF- CARLOS BELTRAN (me)

-for-

3B- MIGUEL CABRERA & 2B- BRIAN ROBERTS

I would've made this trade already had Cabrera not encountered a hip flexor. Everyone expects him to have a much better second half. But is it too risky getting rid of Beltran (My other OFs are Soriano, Bay, Taveras, and Victorino).

Just wanna say thanks to all of you out there that continually help me with my fantasy questions!

  1. i would not do the first trade. dan uggla has been great this season, and alfonso will have his swing ready when he comes back. you're giving up too much. if i were to ask for someone else, i would ask for rich harden instead of dempster. although harden doesn't have a lot of wins, he is the most consistent starting pitcher this year in terms of ERA.

i would do the second trade. your OFs should do the job without beltran. bay has been decent this year. miguel cabrera is a great power hitter, and his numbers can fly if he's healthy again. evan longoria is a nice option, but miggy is the better one.

  2. cole hamels and joe saunders are worth holding onto...uggla is good and bad...keep longoria (he's gonna be a star) along with beltran

  3. Both trades don't help your team so you shouldn't take either.

    First trade:

Uggla for Phillips is an even exchange (both play 2B and have similar stats) so the trade is essentially Soriano for Dempster which is completely lopsided against you.  Soriano is a top 5 hitter, so you should get a top 5 pitcher in return, which the other team does not have.  I would try to move Beltran or Bay for either Hamels or Harden.  If you can't swing a trade, you can always stream pitchers.  I'm sure that there are a lot of good free agent pitchers.

    Trade 2:

The player values of both sides of the trade are pretty even.  You are basically trading power for speed and 2B for OF.  You already have one of the best 2B, so Roberts means a lot less for your team than a team with a weak 2B.  To get his full value, you would have to work another trade.  From the players you mentioned, it looks like you probably have enough speed.  Although this isn't necessary a bad trade, it doesn't help your team so why make it?

  4. I would not take either trade. You have good players and in my opinion not getting enough in return to justify the trade. It is harder t get good positions players than good or hot pitchers...you just need to do some homework on the waiver wire and last 5 games pitched. If you must, however the pitchers you mentioned are all better than Dempster but Hamels and Harden will contribute better in WHIP and K than Saunders
