Question:

Which Type of Hamster is Best For a Teen?

I want to get my first hamster soon, but i can't pick what kind. I've heard when syrians bite, they can draw blood, which i don't want. Also, i know dwarf hamsters are energenic, which means they will be hard to catch when they're out of their cages. There are so many pros and cons of both types, which makes it hard to decide on which one. Please provide any information that's possible.

  1. Well, I'm really soree but I don't know nothing about hamsters.

  2. You can buy a russian hamster because they are very friendly and calm, I like them a lot, they are very intelligent and you can play hours with them.

    bye

  3. For children, syrians are definately best, but i think any kind is good for a teen.

I really like my Russian Dwarves, they are fun to play with, and are also fun because if bought together, they can also live together.

  4. Dwarf hamsters can be very feisty little buggers. A teddy bear (or long haired) hamster would probably be the best bet - they tend to be the calmest ones. All hamsters are really finicky though - it will really just depend on the temperment of the one you get as to how friendly/handleable or how bitey it will be. If you really want a small animal for a teen, I recommend a Guinea Pig, Rat, or Mouse - all of which are extremely friendly, intelligent, curious, and easy to train and handle.

  5. dwarf hamsters are good.

  6. Anything with teeth has the potential to bite and draw blood.

Syrian have been domesticated longer, making it easier to tame, dwarfs have not. In order to domesticate a dwarf you must be willing to handle it every day, I have 54 dwarfs and 12 Syrians all are as sweet and mellow as can be, If you just want one, i would recommend a Syrian since they are more solitary, Dwarfs are more social and prefer to be in at least  a pair if you have any more questions msg me

  7. i suggest you buy syrian hamsters because they are easy to hold compared to dwarfs. I had 5 hamsters and they don't bite only if you disturb them during their sleep or when they are eating. syrian can be easily spotted when they escape compared to dwarfs who hide in the smallest areas in the house.

it is your choice what to choose but i suggest you get the syrian (teddy bear).

    hope this helps!

  8. I would definitely get a dwarf hamster.  However, if you are worried about it bitting you, well, any hamster will do that.  Dwarf hamsters are good because the just tend to be cage nippy.  Until they learn not to be scared of you simply put a toilet paper roll in the cage for him to climb up in and then let him walk out onto your hand, you wont get bitten.  Dwarfs are energetic, but only at night.  If the hamster is going in a bedroom, you definitely want a silent spinner wheel so you wont be awake with the hamster all night.  I love dwarfs, they are super sweet and very cute, you cant go wrong if you treat them well, they will love you as much as you love them, so handle them often and they will be super sweet.

  9. I would go with the Dwarf hamster! My son has three and its not to hard to catch them.

  10. Well i recently purchased 2 robo dwarf hamsters and i think that they are great! If you are worried that they will be hard to catch then play with them in a enclosed area so they can't get far. They are small ( well obviously :P) and very hyper. On the other hand Syrians are around 5-7 inches big, and personally i think that they are better for younger ages, but dont get me wrong they are great hamsters! Syrians bite, but so do Dwarfs, but this shouldn't happen unless you are hurting the hamster or making it feel uncomfortable.

The average hamster is about 15$ - 20$ at petsmart. A good cage is around 30$ - 50$. A Carefresh 60 Liter is 24$, food and treats are around 20$ if you include some wood for them to bite on and a vitamin l**k. A Hamster ball is around 5$ - 10$ which u HAVE TO HAVE they LOVE IT! A wheel 7$ - 15$ depending on the size or hamster and the quality of the wheel. And obviously you have to have a food bowl and water bottle which are together around 10$. in total depends on the quality, the cost will be from 60$ - 90$ and don't for get that you have to keep purchasing bedding and food and change your cage every 1 - 1 1/2 weeks!

good luck on your new hamster and i hope this helps! :)

  11. syrian hamsters- (pros) they're verry cute, they are the NICEST hamster out of all of them, they last longer, they grow bigger, they are nice and furry

(cons) they eat a lot, they sleep a lot ( but you can hold it when it sleeps,)  they can bite you whenever it wants, it doesen't like heights

dwarf hamsters- (pros) they are small, energetic, cute.. (again)..don't eat as much, they bite, but it doesent hurt as much as the syrian hamster

(cons) they are energetic, so when it runs, it is REALLY hard to catch it... they are territorial, so they'll like to keep things in shape.. they run a lot, so give it a wheel..

(pros about both)- both are somewhat friendly if you treat them right, if you take care of it and give it a little TLC, it'll treat you the same way back.. easy to take care of...

(cons) both are knocktournal, so you might not want to keep them in your room.... they squeek.. sometimes they can even jab you.. they bite when your afraid.. they llast 3-3 1/2 years..both like everything nice and tity, so you might have to pick up the phesis (p**p) after they throw it out with their mouth.. sometimes they eat their p**p....

  12. Try getting a golden hamster. I had one for a few years and she was a great hamster!!! They are relatively large (for hamsters) and are great to play with. Another plus is that they don't move very quickly, so it's hard for them to get away from you. My hamster never bit anybody and was a great pet. Good luck!

  13. the tebby bear hamster!! i have had 7! they each lasted 4 happy hamster years! dwarf hamsters are notorious for bittin and you can't play with them at all! they are like little devils!
