Question:

Which US bank account to keep while moving abroad ?

I am currently in US, but will be moving to India for some years. I may or may not come back in the next couple of years. But instead of closing all bank accounts and credit union/credit card accounts, I would like to retain:

- one savings (or checking) bank account

- one credit card

I can keep one credit card and close others; but regarding to keep checking account (Bank of America) and savings account (Citibank), I am in dilemma. I think checking account may not be required as I am not going to stay in US. But if I use credit card, I may have to pay bill for it through bank account, for which checking account may be required. But my citibank Ultimate Savings Account is good for gaining interest on the saved money. So overall, can anybody suggest which bank account (checking or savings) and which bank (Bank of America or Citibank) woule be better in my case (going to live in India for some years or may settle there itself but visit US now and then on short-term job assignments).
