Which US state currently has the highest murder count of 2008?

Orginally where I am from in Canada has taken the title of the Murder capital of Canada with a total of 17 murders this year... I just wanted to compare that to the US lol ...

It is California. However, you must remember that Canada has a population of 33,212,696 (CIA World Fact Book, July 2008 est.) And California has 36,457,549 people (US census bureau). California has a higher population than all of Canada.

With that having been said. Yes, The united states does have a higher murder rate per capita than Canada too.
