Which region in the USA has the cleanest (quality) air?

The many times I have travelled through the Denver, Co. area (with the San Diego, Cali. coast-line having the known reported dirtiest air) I am seeking to breathe "clean air." - Those "prevailing westerlies" do s-p-r-e-a-d the winds!

I live in the middle of the Texas panhandle area (Amarillo, Tx.) as we jokingly say that we get our air from all over the world and we share our dirt in exchange for it (which is true!)

%I saw parts of Arkansas flying overhead just yesterday!

  1. Here is a list of cities witht he cleanest air in the USA.

    http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/200...

To sum, here are the top 10

    1.    Cheyenne, Wyo.

    2.    Santa Fe-Espanola, N.M.

    3.    Honolulu, Hawaii

    4.    Great Falls, Mont.

    5.    Farmington, N.M.

    6.    Flagstaff, Ariz.

    6.    Tucson, Ariz.

    8.    Anchorage, Alaska

    8.    Bismarck, N.D.

    10.  Albuquerque, N.M.

So you could say the western states/Rocky Mountain states (not Pacific states) have the cleanest air on average

Due to the lack of major industry and population density.

  2. I see Honolulu is #3, and it is usually near the top.  However we now have "vog" (volcanic pollution) which makes it look like LA on a bad day!  Our tradewinds determine our air quality, and the quality is usually very good.
