Fitzroy.

Due to World War 1 only 4 teams competed in the 1916 season. Fitzroy had an ordinary season until the finals winning only 2 games. They finished the Home and Away season last. Carlton on the other hand had only lost 2 games and were raging favourites. Fitzroy made it to the Grand Final and defeated Carlton by 29 points.
