Question:

Which Vuelta Wheelset is best???

Now that I have officially chosen a brand, I need to know which one will get the job done. The "best bang for the buck wheelset." Now the 2008 vuelta pro sl weigh only 1589 grams for the pair! And only $220, but thats all I have got to spend because I like getting the most for my money while holding a budget. http://bikeisland.com/cgi-bin/BKTK_STOR20.cgi?Action=Details&ProdID=737

Now, after seeing those, should I go for those suckers OR trust something else at the same price that you may have to tell me about? Something for 220 or less. Now that is hard to beat, but I have got to know if you do have anything. 1589 grams and hand made in Italy. Thanks for reading and posting your opionions.

  1. if you are a light rider check out neuvation wheels

    they are cheap and light

i have a set and i reallllly like them

they arent way strong but if you are under 150 they will be just fine

  2. While i agree with the last answer, don't consider any sub 1700 lb wheelset if you're over 175 lbs. The ones that will carry your weight reliability will cost you a bundle. Vueltas are suppose to be decent from reviews that i have read abut many of them. I am 198 lbs and I ride Neuvation M28 Aero 3s. I haven't had any problems with them yet but even at 1750 grams, I'm pushing it. The problem can also arise if you're an aggressive or very powerful rider. You will began breaking spokes and hubs. Those Vuelta SLs are pretty sharp looking IMHO, but at that weight and price, I question the quality. You might do better with a wheel that doesn't look as attractive but will safely tske you on rides. Have you looked at the Mavic Open Pro wheelset with Ultegra hubs at Performance Bike? They are around $200 and those are bulletproof and reasonably light. I wouldn't trust the durability of any SL wheel unless I was under 150 lbs. The saying goes:

    "Strong, lightweight, inexpensive...pick two."

  3. The wheel set you're looking at seem like a good deal. I'm not familiar with them though. A wheel set you might want to look at is the XERO LITE XR-1. They are just a little lighter and a few bucks cheaper. I do have experience with these as do two friends of mine. These wheels are strong, stay true, are light, cheap and well made. Check 'em out before you buy.
