I have a full set of clubs, Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3/4 Hybrid, 3-9 irons, Pitch and Sand Wedge. I want to add a wedge to this.

What degrees, make, model do you recommend ? Thanks

(I know you are only allowed fourteen clubs in your bag, I would substitute it for an unused iron. :-P)

  1. it all depends on what degree your current wedges are, your PW is probably 48 degree, and sand wedge is closer to 56, now if you have the money what I'd say to do is drop the sand wedge pick up a 54 and a 58 that way you have pretty much everything covered from about 110 yards and in and that way it gives you a couple different shots into the green, either bump and run or loft.

  2. well you have two clubs that you could still add to your set. first of all we need more information. what degree is the PW and what degree is the sand wedge. yes it is true most PW are about 45-46 degrees and the SW is 56 but there are exceptions. i mean i had a SW that was actually 51.5 degrees. so asuming that your SW is 56 and your PW is about 45-46 than i would put a GW in there. this would be between 50-52 degrees. this would split the difference and make it easier for certain shots. also if you are looking for a more lofted club after the 56 than maybe look at a lob wedge. this would be 60 but will get a lot of height with alot of spin but not much distance. obviously. play around with some cheap wedges and see what you like and then spend more money on a good wedge. trust me there is a huge difference between a $20 verse a $89 wedge. cleveland and vokey are the best out there. but try various wedges with different grooves and faces. good luck. hope this helps.

  3. i would buy a "lob" wedge. These are very lofted (usually 60 degrees or more) and do not have a "flange" as sand wedges do to enable them to "skim" through the sand. they are very usefull around the green where attempting to use the sandwedge will often result in "thinning" the ball because the flange will prevent the blade striking at the bottom of the ball.

  4. Titleist make a wedge designed by the legendary Bob Vokey. The Vokey wedge has a milled (rough) face that puts lots of spin on th ball so it stops quickly or gets back spin on landing. They make then in 52-60 degree loft. They are selling for about £69. Expensive but it's the best club in my bag, highly recommended.

  5. With  a 9 iron, pitching and sand wedge, I wouldn't need another wedge. Personally I would go for a 1 or 2 iron to cover the gap between your woods and 3 iron.

  6. I would try to find a 52 degree gap wedge. I have one and I really like it. It is great for right next to the green and hitting over bunkers. I suggest a titleist vokey wedge. They are a little pricey but they are worth it. If you dont want to pay that much for one, get a cheaper kind for around 30 - 50 dollars. I hope this helps.

  7. I was in the same situation and i decided to add a gap wedge.  It has a 51 degree loft and fills the "gap" between the pitching wedge and sand wedge.  I like it because with the course i play i have alot of 80-100 yard shots into the green that are too far for a sand wedge and too short for a full swing pitching wedge.  Do not add another long iron, you will use wedges much more often and they are the way to go for taking strokes off your game.

  8. I faced the same question.......I can hit a sandwedge 100 yds.....Problem was too much spin........so I opted for a gap wedge that allowed me to smooth swing and thus control spin...it worked for me...Only you can judge what you need for your game......And I would always go with a Vokey wedge   Again personal choice.

  9. drop the 56 sand wedge and get a 54 with a low bounce so you can open up the face and get a 60 degree titalist vokey milled

  10. to have to no the actual floft of the pitching and sandwich there is gap wedges to fit in between for a lob wedge at the opposite end
