Sure, by their very nature one could say they all are, but which specific ones have the worst practices? And what sorts of things were/ or still are done? Thank you.

  1. well i have to say this one thing:

in sudan there are mental-instutiations that have 15 year olds chained to cribs. talk about unethical. NBC today show did a specail report about it. and wow was i sad and ditsturbd at the same time.

  2. Right now, anything from Guatemala is suspect.

  3. Easter House in Chicago, or any agency involved with Seymour Kurtz. The rat bastage of all rat bastages. They took my daughter and god knows how many other children. They have been in three countries I know of and are in so many states it is disgusting. Under more than one name go here for more information:

  4. I'm going to throw an oldie but a badie out there.

The Ideal Maternity Home in East Chester Nova Scotia. A stunning movie was made about this home and it's ruthless operators. Several books have also been written.

Most often this story is know simply as the story of the butterbox babies. It is estimated that hundreds of "unadoptable" infants were starved to death and buried on the home's grounds in plain wooden butterboxes. The natural Mother's were forced to pay for their stay at the home, burial of dead infants, care until placement of surviving infants and oddly enough some were required to pay for the adoptions themselves. This is a chilling story and is the one that got me involved in the so called "anti" adoption movement, actually a pro-adoption reform movement. No real records were kept as the Mother's were forced to take generic names upon entry at the home. Many of the Mothers and Children born at the home are still searching today. Many have died, never knowing who they really were.

  5. I do not want to name the specific agencies.  One "birth" mother who blogs named her agency for their unethical practices and their lawyers came after her big time.  They are extremely agressive and NASTY about this.

I will share characteristics of unethical agencies and let people judge for themselves.

    - Charges adoptive parents outrageous fees for services that are not received (skimming off "birth" mothers living expenses, counseling that "birth" mothers do not receive, etc.).

    - Charges adoptive parents outrageous fees just because they can.

    - Charges adoptive parents non-service related fees even though they do not get a placement.

    - Promises adoptive parents short times to placement.

    - Attempts to isolate the "birth" mother from her normal support system (parents, friends, boyfriends, church).

    - Makes the "birth" mother list the material things that she can provide vs what their rich customers can provide.

    - Tells the "birth" mother that if she truly loves her baby, she will relinquish.  That if she keeps her baby that she will "resent" the child and will abuse him/her.

    - Tells the "birth" mother that she will redeem herself in her parent's eyes if she gives her baby away.

    - Calls a baby a "gift", a "miracle", or a "blessing" to an infertile couple.

    - Tells the birth mother that her child deserves a 2-parent family and cites skewed statistics about single mothers.

    - Calls the "birth" mother a "selfless angel".

    - Tries to move the "birth" mother to an adoption friendly state where father notification laws are adoption friendly and where there is little or no revocation period.

    - Encourages the "birth" mother to have the adoptive parents attend doctors visits and to be at the delivery so she will feel guilty if she wants to keep her baby.

    - Tells "birth" mothers that open adoption means only letters and pictures the first few years.

    - Tells "birth" mothers that they will feel sad in the beginning but they will get over their loss and "move on" with life.

Hmmm - that would cover most domestic infant adoption agencies me thinks.  It would be easier to list the ethical ones.

Can anyone add to the signs of an unethical agency?  I am sure there are more.

  6. Sigh, the list is too long and too depressing to compile. Fortunately many have been shut down, but there are still far too many still operating. Unfortunately, anyone who compiles a list or unethical agencies is opening themselves and their website providers up to charges of libel, which could bankrupt them. So the posts or websites are taken down, removed, or shut off completely. I know I have seen actual lists before, but most that I bookmarked are now gone. And that is really sad, because both pregnant women and potential adoptive parents who are considering adoption really need this information.

Here is one list that is still there. See the list at the left on this blog.

I think most of these agencies are involved mostly in international adoption, so the concentration is more about unethical practices that affect adoptive parents -- not mothers, still it is a list.

Here is a wonderful, hard-hitting blog from a mom who found out after the fact children were stolen from their mother in India:

Check out the categories and links on the right side, especially: fellow fleas, child abduction for adoption, baby farming, etc.

And in the source section below are a lot more links to discussions about unethical agencies in general and how to avoid them.

  7. all i can say is name one.... ANYone, sorry i can't be more specific. i didn't go through an agency, mine was private, done with "friends"......... who didn't honor their "open" adoption promises, which were many.
