i know someone who has mental health problems, which requires them to be on medication which affects reactions and makes them drowsy. They still insist on driving, as they are manic / depressive and believe their capabilities are greater than they are. I know they do not have insurance, and i am just incredibly worried they will soon have an accident which will injure either them or some other person. They are so easily distracted and has been seen looking at shop windows to their left whilst driving straight on. I just feel i need to act before they run someone over.

  1. Check out the DVLA website and it will tell you who to call.

  2. For no insurance contact the Police, for medically unfit DVLA (  if dangerous the Police )

  3. Your local police station will tell you who to contact.

  4. If you are on good terms with this person I would tell them that unless they stop driving you will go to the police, as they are driving without insurance which is illegal, never mind if they think they are capable or not. The medical side of things should be reported to the DVLA, but the police will probably do that anyway. If you can persuade them to stop driving maybe you could tell them they need to report their own medical situation to the DVLA. Maybe you think I am living in cloud cuckoo land for thinking they would do that, but it sounds like you are friends with this person, so it's worth trying to preserve the friendship as well as fulfilling your legal obligations.

  5. 1. Department of Motor Vehicles.

    2. Police Department.

    3. Their Doctor if possible.

    4. Their Family.

  6. The only place to report them to is the police. They have the right to deem them unfit to drive.

    Ja.

  7. If they are driving while knowingly unfit they are committing a criminal offence under the Road Traffic Act and can be prosecuted. A job for the police if you can get them motivated.

    xxFJ

  8. just call the police with the car reg No.

  9. In the UK, contact the DVLA:

    DVLA

    Clase

    Swansea

    SA99 1AA

  10. In the US, it is the doctor who prescibes the medication who should be reporting the patient as being unfit to drive while on the medication.

If you are not a doctor, you are not qualified to make that kind of determination.  I know a lot of perfectly healthy people who are too easily distracted while driving.

Still, if you have valid concerns, you can contact your state's Department of Motor Vehicles, or equivelant agency and let them know of your concerns.   It is doubltful that your local police department can do anything about it unless your acquaintance is seen driving erratically, or, until a collision does occur.

  11. If in UK...the Police, or to the Medical Section of the DVLA....
