Which air conditioner should I buy?

Im looking at a 5000 btu and an 8000 btu and i was wondering if the 8000 btu air conditioner would make my room cooler or would it just cool the room faster than the 5000 btu

yes and yes.

The whole thing about running an air conditioner is that you are battling heat gain, which is measured by how fast your room will heat up when it is hot outside.

Btus are a measurement of how much heat an air conditioner can remove an hour.  A 5k Btu air conditioner removes 5 thousand btus an hour, and an 8K btu air conditioner removes 8 thousand btus an hour.

So, the larger the btus the faster it can cool it down, and the lower you can make the temperature.
