Which airline do you prefer?

I plan on flying this November to the Bahamas. I also plan on choosing an online vacation package provided by either Expedia or Priceline. Part of my choosing will have to do with the flight carriers. Expedia is offering US Airways, and Priceline offers American Airline. Which do you prefer, and why? If you think it doesn't make much of a difference, which website have you found more reliable? Thanks for all your help!

  1. American Airlines, better planes

    priceline is better too,

  2. It kind of depends on where you are flying from.  If you have to take American's CRJ-700 nonstop flight from Chicago to Nassau, that will be a 3 hour and 10 minute flight aboard a relatively smaller plane.  The CRJ-700 has 70 seats in an all-Coach class configuration.  It is four abreast seating, meaning there are two seats on either side of the aisle.  If you are flying through Ft. Lauderdale or Miami to the Bahamas on American, you will be on an ATR72, which is a larger turboprop airplane that seats about 64-66 passengers in a similar layout to the CRJ-700.  The ATR72 flights will only be about an hour and 15 minutes, but if you are not crazy about taking turboprop planes or regional jets, your best bet would be to fly on US Airways.  US Airways flies the Airbus A319 and Boeing 737-300 and 737-400 to Nassau and Freeport.  These aircraft are mainline size planes with a First Class cabin (four abreast seating) and a Coach cabin (six abreast seating).  The A319 and 737-300 seat 12 in First and 114 in Coach, while the 737-400 seats 12 in First and 132 in Coach.

If aircraft type does not make a difference to you, but airport convenience does, I would not recommond flying through Chicago.  You may need to connect in Chicago (one of American's hubs), depending on where you are coming from.  Chicago O'Hare International Airport is the second busiest airport in the world and is infamous for incurring delays.  I would also not recommend flying through Philadelphia International Airport, which is one of US Airways' hubs.  This airport is well known for having issues with checked baggage getting lost.  If you can, try flying through Miami if you take American (not the prettiest airport, but not the headache that Chicago is), or fly through Charlotte if you take US Airways (fairly convenient airport for being a hub).

One last thing to mention is that US Airways now currently charges $2 for non-alcoholic beverages, including water.  American does not do this.  Both airlines will charge you $15 for the first checked bag and $25 for the second (if they all weigh under 50 lb.).
