Question:

Which airport is better for Williamsburg, VA? Richmond or Norfolk?

I'm planning a trip from DFW to Williamsburg, VA in June on American Airlines. American does not fly into Newport News. So, my choices are Richmond or Norfolk. These two airports seem to be about 55 miles each from Williamsburg. Which is less likely to be jammed up with traffic when we are trying to get to and from the airport? Thanks

  1. I grew up in Norfolk, but have lived in Richmond since '91.

Richmond is the easier bet traffic wise, hands down. The airport lies on the eastern edge of the city an it is a straight, rural shot through outlying counties to Williamsburg on I 64. Flying through Norfolk you have tunnel traffic to contend with and a much more populated route through Norfolk, Hampton, and Newport News. Happy traveling and enjoy your time in Virginia!

  2. Norfolk for sure.

I can't speak for traffic as much as I can speak for the weather.

  3. Norfolk serves a larger population than Richmond. None of the airports in southern Virginia should be that crowed.
