  1. Midway is the closer and easier airport to get to the city.

Whether you land in OHare or Midway, you have the ability to take the "L" (the trains) straight into the city and it'll cost you $2.

  2. Miggs Field is shut down and has been for several years.  No commercial flights went into it.

Midway is closer than O'Hare.  You can take the Orange Line from Midway to Downtown.  You can also take the Blue Line from O'Hare to Downtown.

Use Google Maps to see how to get from either airport to your destination via public transportation.

    http://maps.google.com/help/maps/transit...

  3. Well, by pure distance, Midway is closer to downtown. However, thanks to the great public transit system Chicago has, you can get to both via rapid transit (aka the "EL").  Depending on what city you are flying from, you can choose your airport. Midway is the hub for Southwest Airline. O'Hare is hub for United and American Airlines.

Taking the Blue Line from O'Hare will drop you downtown in the subway system. Taking the Orange Line from Midway will drop you downtown on the Elevated Track (hence the nickname the "EL"). Once you get downtown, you might want to just spend $5 or $10 to take a taxi to your hotel, but you can transfer to a bus (route 156) that will go directly by your hotel.

To save a little money, consider buying a 1, 2, or 3 day visitor pass ($5, $9, or $12) which allows unlimited rides on trains and busses.

And lastly, CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming wedding!

  4. Small airport called Migs Field it's almost in the lake.  It's right down town.   Sorry, I haven't been in Chicago for many years.

  5. Midway is closer to downtown Chicago. However, both airports have easy access to the L trains (Elevated Trains/Subways) and city buses going to downtown or any other part of the city and suburbs. O'Hare has the Blue Line and Midway has the Orange Line. However I think the Orange line doesn't run 24/7. Check out this map for the schedule from each train station (just click on the station's names to see the schedule). http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/rail/... And then check this website to plan your trip during your stay in Chicago if you're going to use the CTA, Metra and Pace buses and trains. http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/tripp...

  6. Cabs from both airports cost EXACTLY the same because there is a flat rate enforced due to our horrific traffic that could make cab to (or from) either airport cost $20 with no traffic and over a hundred dollars with lots of traffic...

so the city enforces a $35 flat rate.

So the thing is you get into a Chicago Cab and there's some information posted in the back seat of every cab.  If you read it, you'll see that there is no meter to or from either airport, it's a flat fee of $35 on the meter.  There is a dollar charge for the high gas prices, and that does not include tax + tip.

The Blue Line is the O'Hare train.

The Orange Line is the Midway train.

So 720 N LaSalle is just south of Chicago Ave on LaSalle, so from Midway you would transfer from the Orange Line to the Brown Line at Randolph/Wabash and exit the Brown Line at Chicago Ave which is about a block from your hotel: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&ge...

The Blue Line from O'Hare you would have to exit at Chicago Ave and either walk about seven blocks east to your hotel or take a cab for about $7.

In the end go with Midway if you can.  Midway is smaller and faster and more on time than O'Hare.  You'll get downtown faster no matter what from Midway, and to get to your hotel the transfer makes it way more convenient.

On the other hand, O'Hare is always cheaper and easier to find flights.  It's just a little more of a pain in the butt, but it is managable.

  7. Someone tell the guy above that Meigs Field is no longer even there. It was torn down years ago. Midway is closer and much less hassle. Take the "el" right into the loop.
