Which all inclusive hotel is better overall for 1st trip to Mexico: Grand Occidental Xcaret or Grand Sirenis?

If you know of a different hotel in the Playa del Carmen or Akumal area that is also a nice all inclusive resort, please comment!!!

I LOVE the Grand Sirenis!  It is still very new and clean, great beach, great rooms, great food, great service, all around wonderful!  Plus, it is cheaper than the Occidental Grand.  When I go to the Grand Sirenis, I do not usually go on any tours or excursions, I am perfectly content staying at the resort.

Now, my parents have stayed at the Occidental Grand and loved it.  Included in your stay is a one day pass to Xcarat.  If visiting Xcaret was on your agenda anyways, then that may be a good choice for you.

They are both pretty far away from the airport, so I would suggest upgrading to a private or non-stop transfer.  Also, they are both 30 minutes away from Playa Del Carmen, so if shopping, eating out, or bar hopping is on your agenda, neither of these hotels would be convenient for you.

I've seen the Occidental Xcaret and it looks a lot better than the Grand Sirenis or at least its in a better location. Also the reviews for occidental are way better. This year I went to Riu Palace Mexico and it had high reviews but I didn't like it much. I'd would of rather stayed in the hotel I did the year before which was the Grand Palladium(Colonial,Kantenah,White Sands,Riviera) there are four hotels all in one. The surroundings were great the beach was fantastic. Only thing if you don't want to be far away from the city playa del carmen then this would not be good for you since its about 15-20miles past playa del carmen. Even though it is further away it is 100 times better than any of the hotels near Playa del carmen because the beaches close to town are washed away and you cant really swim in them. The hurricanes in the past have caused the beaches to erode away and there are big BIG sandbags to stop the erosion right on the beach . Plus the beaches are so choppy and you don't swim instead you jump because this is the only thing you can do when the waves are high. I can say that the Grand Palladium have fantastic rooms even for the junior suite it had a huge spa with jets in the room. I could only imagine what the higher upgraded rooms would be like if the junior suite was so good. Hope your first time is a a great time enjoy Playa Del Carmen I know I did.
