  1. 1) How do Animals clean themselves?

Cats clean themselves with their tongues.Cat’s tongues have a rough surface which helps take away bits of dirt that get caught in their fur.

Different animals clean themselves in different ways. Monkeys use their hands to clean themselves and each other. They pick out dry skin, dirt and sometimes fleas.

Some smaller fish clean large fish. The small fish eat pieces of dead skin from the body of the large fish. Sometimes they even climb into the mouths of the big fish and eat scraps of food from their teeth!

Birds use their beaks to clean themselves. They grab each feather at the top and run their beak along it, taking away any dirt or loose bits of feather.

Elephants have fun bathing together and they use their trunks to squirt water on themselves. But when they have cleaned themselves, elephants will sometimes have mud baths! Elephants cover themselves in mud or spray dust over their heads and backs to keep off the heat of the sun and to stop flies landing on them.

    2) Personal grooming (also called titivating) is the art of cleaning, grooming, and maintaining parts of the body. In animals, it is a species-typical behavior that is controlled by neural circuits in the brain.

Individual animals regularly clean themselves and put their fur, feathers or other skin coverings in good order. This activity is known as personal grooming a form of hygiene. For example, combing through the hair or feathers, ensuring they lie smoothly against the skin, and extracting foreign objects such as insects, and leaves, dirt and twigs, are all forms of grooming.

Among animals, birds spend considerable time preening their feathers. This is done to remove ectoparasites, keep them in good aerodynamic condition, and waterproof them. They use the "preen oil" secreted by the uropygial gland, the dust of powder down, or other means such as dust-bathing or anting. When an oil spill affects penguins, animal conservation that rescue them sometimes dress them in knitted sweaters to stop them from preening and thereby ingesting the mineral oil which is poisonous.

Felidae (cats) are famous for their extensive grooming. One reason advanced for such grooming is to remove all traces of blood and other matter so as to not alert prey with the scent. Cats groom so much that they often produce hairballs from the fur they ingest.

l*****g is a common way for animals to clean themselves. In mammals, l*****g helps keep the fur clean and untangled. The tongues of many mammals have a rough upper surface that acts like a brush when the animal licks its fur.
