  1. many animals are monogamous - at least at first glance. the more we study animals, though, the more confusing their mating behaviour can become. many supposedly monogamous birds, for example, have extra-pair matings on the sly. some males have two females with nests unknownst to the females.. etc.

it would be a long list of the ones we still believe to be truly monogamous. penguins, albatross, many such seabirds can't afford to play around. Group-living mammals tend to have a dominant pair, such as wolves, merekats, molerats...

  2. I believe most bird species are monagamous to varying degrees, but I know from personal experience that ducks in particular definitely are. After they perform their courting ritual (which I happened to witness during college on my way to class one day), the male "wins" the female by knocking her unconscious before the other males do (they take turns pecking her in the head), then he gets to mate with her and they stay together for the rest of their lives. I also noticed later in the day on my way home that the male stood guard over the female while she napped in the grass. I knew they were the same 2 ducks because I recognized her head wound. It was pretty upsetting to watch a duck get jumped at first, then I got over it when I researched why they behaved that way.

  3. Many birds mate for life. Monogamy is rare among mammals, but a few that mate for life are grey wolves, red wolves, Ethiopian wolves, red foxes, bat-eared foxes, black-backed jackals, side-striped jackals, golden jackals, African wild dogs, Kirk's dik-diks, certain marmosets, and (sometimes) humans. Seahorses are thought to be the only monogamous fish.

  4. wolves, whales, hawks, swans, those are the only ones i can think off

right off the top of my head.

  5. Ducks
