  1. A.

C is technically a compound sentence, but it doesn't make sense.

D is a compound sentence if the color was replaced by a semi-colon.

B is an acceptable compound sentence, but I was taught that it's a run-on sentence.

  2. A. is the correct answer.

    B. is simply a run on sentence.

    C. doesn't make sense, because by having the supplies ready, one becomes ready to leave.  The 'but' is the wrong word.

    D. innappropriately uses a colon where a semicolon would work.

  3. Answer A is correct.   Answer B would be correct if it used a semicolon and ended in a period, as would answer D if it had a semicolon and a space, and also would have to end in a period.  Answer C uses the word 'but' which implies that the two things are related but opposite– "We do not have the supplies ready, but we are ready to leave." would be appropriate usage.  It also requires a period.

  4. I think A. not sure though
