ball python would be your best bet. As for those people saying boas are aggressive they are wrong, in the big constrictor pet trade boas temperaments have to be the best, the big pythons are the mean ones there the ones  you want to stay clear of, your common boa and rainbow boa both have good temperaments, now your tree boa is def for more experienced owners and is more an exhibit rep then one to handle. Go with the ball you will be very satisfied

A Ball/royal python would make a great first snake the others get too big and can sometimes be aggressive (or in the case of boa constrictors almost always ar aggressive)

All of those can be pretty aggressive. I would suggest a corn snake for a beginner. They come in many different colors and can get to around six feet long. BUT... If you have to have one of those I would say a ball python is your best bet.
