  1.             B

because as you say in the question,a protein is just a molecule, and a viru is only alive when it's in contact with a biologicol object ( organism), and also we know that all living features have observed in a cell,so the correct answer is B.

  2. B

  3. A cell is definitely alive.

There is a great dispute between scientists about viruses (some say that hey are alive because they have genetic material,  while others say that they are not alive because they can't reproduce unless they are in another living cell).

Proteins are not considered to be alive but a special type of proteins, called prions, are capable of "infecting" other proteins and make them change  their shape which then makes them incapable of performing their function. Prions are the cause of diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, mad cow disease and scarpie.

Therefore before you can answer this question, you have to define "alive". But just for the case of simple high school exam, I would say the answer is "B".

  4. B. II only

A protein molecule and virus are dead, they are only DNA

  5. B, the only one that is alive is a cell, because of the charactictis of life:

    Response(to a stimulis)

    Growth/Development

    Reproduction

    Energy/Metabolism

    Evolution

    One or more cells

    Universal Genetic Code

    Homeostasis

a virius is difined as nonliving but it is still in debate within the scientific comminuity

  6. B. II only

this is because cells exhibit all characteristics of life.

  7. i think D

  8. Depending on your definition of "alive".

On the more strict of cases, only a Cell would be called "alive", since it is born, it grows, it multiplies, and then finally dies.

But, then, you have some cases at which a protein, called "prion" also has the ability to multiply itself, and by that, it fulfills the requirement of growing and multiplying, as well as dying and being born, since it comes from other proteins.

Also, with the virus, they happen to also be "born" because they multiply within the cell, and then are released to infect other cells and grow and die at trying to do that.

But it's because of that, that they both, prions and viruses, require of some other sort of "precursor" or "host" to be born or to multiply, that they are more frequently characterized as non-living organisms. (Oh, and also the little detail about them not being capable of expressing any sort of directed "will")

    Hope that helps

  9. only B i.e cell

virus r both living n nonliving.

coz when inside a living body virus r living n show all characters of living things like grow, move, reproduce etc n when outside a living body these r non living.
