Which are more compressible, liquids or gases?

the particles in a gas are more spread out than in a liquid, so theres more blank space for the particles in a gas to be squished into:

for example (a full stop is a particle)

you can prove this theory by filling a syringe with water and blocking the end and trying to compress it - impossiple

if you do the same with air yoou can compress it more!
