We have used cheap ones and they tend to jump on playback. Also difficulty in formatting on the D.V.D. player. We have used recordable and non-recordable

  1. I use these:

They are really good, although they are quite expensive, I have used cheap ones myself and the Philips ones are definitely the best.

You can also clear them as much as you like, so your getting good value for your money.

  2. I've tried various brands and found that whilst things like Verbatim will work ok in the PC my DVD recorder chokes on them.

Basically, you get what you pay for. Stick to the well known brands such as Sony or TDK or Philps. They'll probably have a better shelf-life too.

  4. Buy DVDs from a well-known reputable brand and you should be OK.

Cheapy cheap ones are built down to a minimum price otherwise there is no profit in it.

Just a thought - do these cheap discs work OK in other recorders. If so it could be that your recorder either has a fault or is just a bit choosey.

  5. Hi Lolo,

We tested a lot of DVDs for our computer business.

The very best most reliable for burning was Verbatim with Sony coming in a close second.

At the very bottom of the pack with the most failed burns and most errors was Memorex.

We are in the process of life testing and after three plus years in storage the only failure to read that we have had so far is a Memorex.

  6. Look here and you will find Blank Media reports: Blank DVD Media Tests: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f33/

Your best bet is to go for 'Taiyo Yuden' certain 'CMC magnetic' and 'Mitsubishi' Dye based ones.

Specialists like www.aprmedia.com or svp.co.uk will list the Dyes their bulk and branded media uses.
