  4. Alot can be said for best types. Some people will say water, fire, burn, stall, or whatever. I have 2 decks myself that are tournament proved and are very easy to put together if you know how. 6 Samurai  are great for a quick beatdown deck. I have won in 1 turn with them(though 2-4 is more likely). I also play a Monarch deck, I like to think mine is different but they are all about control. I have beaten  6 Samurai many times with it. So my advice is to stick to what you know. Knowing what your cards are and how to play them is how to build the best deck. Good luck.

  5. Do you mean best decks "of" cards? Bicycle or Hoyle.

  6. Well, I'll guess that you may not know that tarot cards were created for playing card games. They were commissioned in the mid 15th century by the Duke of Milan as part of the celebrations for his daughter, Bianca Visconti's marriage into the Sforza family. The extra cards added to the standard Milanese playing cards took as their theme a traditional Christian triumph procession. Hence they were called trionfi, meaning triumphs, and from which we get our word trump - it was the invention of tarot that marked the invention of trumps in card games.

For 350 years they were used for nothing but card games, at one point becoming the most popular form of card game throughout continental Europe. These games are still played today (it is the second most popular card game in France now), though most of them are played with French suited cards you might not recognize as being tarot at all. The old Italian suits and trumps are still used in Italy, Sicily, and Switzerland.

For the Italian cards, I think that Modiano's quality is hard to beat. Durable and attractive and at a reasonable price. They are now the only manufacturer producing the Tarocco Siciliano.

When it comes to the French suited cards, you can find the sort of variety that you find in regular playing cards - they are that mainstream there. Everything from Asterix to the French Foreign Legion, to Woody Allen films. My favourite pack though is that by Argio Orell from 1910.

If you want to see examples of the cards used for game play, you can find some, along with rules to the games at my own site here:
