  1. Some have already been mentioned...public gardens, Peggy"s Cove, Legislative Chambers, historic properties, Citadel Hill and the military Museum.

Halifax was founded in 1749 and Dartmouth in1750 so there are a lot of historic sites and buildings more than 200 years old.

Universities (Dalhouisie, St Mary's, Mount Saint Vincent, Kings, etc.)

    Keith's Brewery

North West Arm and canoe clubs

Dartmouth across the harbour...use either of the largfe suspension bridges or the ferry service that has been running for over 100 years

Halifax harbour with its container ports and the ships of the Canadian Forces (Royal Canadian Navy)

    Shopping mallsin Halifax and Dartmouth

Maritime Museum with its Titanic display

Ancient cemetaries including those where Titanic victims are burried.

Learn of the Halifax Explosion of 1917 the largest explosion rior to the artomic bomb and which killed over 2000 people

    Schubie Canal (Dartmouth)

Dartmouth Lakes (seriesof lakes streach from the Atlantic to the Bay of Fundy - scene of a lot of aquatic events and several canoe clubs like Banook and Mic Mac and Senobe

  2. Please note: the centre of Halifax is VERY steep. Do plan all visits carefully, so you don't have to walk up- and downhill more often than necessary.

    1) nature:

The Public Gardens near the city centre are very nice; then there are other parks (Point Pleasant, etc.) close by. Also, there are a lot of beautiful wildlife areas outside Halifax.

    2) sights:

The Citadel is well worth a visit; it doesn't look like much from the outside, because it's hidden for strategic reasons; once inside you can spend hours taking pictures of Halifax from the battlements.

The parliament (Province House) is a nice place to visit for 20 or 30 minutes, provided it's open.

The huge Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, if you like art.

In addition, there are many beautiful buildings to marvel at, and take pictures of; just stroll around a bit.

Just outside Halifax, there's the Mount Uniacke estate; check on the internet if the house is open while you are there.

Other places most tourists visit on short day-trips from Halifax are Peggy's Cove (complete with lighthouse) and Lunenburg (beautiful colonial architecture). But if you are planning to do short trips outside Halifax, you should also consider visiting Windsor and Wolfville.

    3) shopping:

Spring garden Road is the main shopping street: it lead from the city centre to the Public Gardens; the so-called "Historic Properties" on the sea-front contain some interesting small shops, as does the Barrington shopping centre next to it.

Also, check out if the Farmers' Market near the brewery is on while you're there - it's very interesting, but often very crowded.

  3. sidney crosbys house

  4. The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse

    Atlantic News

    Frog Hollow Books

    The Daily Grind

  5. pretty well most of the best spots have been said already.

off the top of my head, i highly suggest peggy's cove.. its gorgeous.

i suggest also while you're in halifax.. eat out well. hali is filled with great food, good prices, and diverse atmosphere..you never know what to expect when you go there... so try not to stick with the usual fast food joint,.. there's so much to experience there.

id have to say, nova scotia is filled with beautiful places.. if you're spending a rather large amount of time there.. i suggest going for a drive further around the province.. places like annapolis valley, digby, cape breton, and northumberland shore regions are all gorgeous and full of things to do. There's alot more to Nova Scotia then Halifax :).

have fun and enjoy our province !
