Question:

Which are the best shoulder pads for rugby union?

I'm looking to buy the best rugby union shoulder pads on the market. I live in Croatia where there is none so I must order it over the net, without trying them out. So I'm asking the experienced players which models and manufacturers are the best. Kooga, Canterbury, Aidas, Mitre, Predator, Optimum...???

The price is not an issue as I'm in years when I can't afford to save on my health.

BTW I am flanker.

Any help much appreciated!

  1. Well if you must order it over the internet think Canterbury, Adidas, Mitre etc are better. Really feel you should buy them personally. What you feel good in is what you want.

  2. I have never worn them myself personally. I play high level rugby and most players on my team who do wear tham wear Canterbury. The octagon or hexagon pattern wraps nicely over the shoulder.

  3. When did rugby players start wearing pads? I thought it was only American Footballers who wore them. Do rugby players wear helmets now too? What is going on?

  4. know about shoulder pads:

  5. Not required IMO, I never wore them when I was playing.

However, if you MUST have some I'd go for Canterbury or Kooga
