Which are the decent hotels in Darjeeling and Gangtok that are centrally located?

We'll be in Darjeeling. for 4 days. Our budget is around 500 to 1000 Rupees (INR). The hotels should have decent facilities. Ideally, it should be in a central location so we can travel around the nearby places easily.

    Budget:

    There are about 200 hotels and lodges in Darjeeling. so you can get a room easily for different budgets. However, on the whole budget accommodation is poor value compared to elsewhere in India.

        * Hotel Aliment. Check out: 10AM. Due to it's location on the top of the hill the views are nice, but the 15min walk from the clocktower is quite steep. In some double rooms there is hot water from 6.30-7.30PM, but they can fill up a bucket with hot water the rest of the day. There is also a simple restaurant, which is also the home of an impressive library. Rs 250-600.  

    Mid range:

        * Darjeeling Tourist Lodge, Bhanu Sarani (7 minutes from Mal, near Gymkhana Club), ? +91 354 2254411/12/13 (dort1@dte.vsnl.net.in, fax: +91 354 2254412), [1]. Property belongs to West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation and has a breathtaking location with a grand view of Kanchenjunga peak from the rooms all double bed rooms – Rs.500-1600.  

        * Hotel Sinclairs, [2]. A decent accommodation, offers a view of Kunchenjunga. It has 46 beautiful rooms and suites, with satellite TV channels, telephones and attached baths with hot and cold water. The wooden interiors give it an ambience of a traditional country home. Food is excellent even in the off season.  

        * Hawk's Nest Resort.  

        * Hotel Dekeling.  

        * Hotel Dil.  

        * Hotel Fairmont, ? 0354 2253649. Rs. 1050-2000.  

        * Hotel Heritage.  

        * Hotel Pineridge, great location, on the chowrasta (on the left before the Mall), ? 225 4088. All rooms face Kanchenjungha. 033 2244 2051, Rooms are dank & dreary with rickety old furniture. Offers a hint of the old world charm  

        * Hotel Prince.

        * Hotel Sunflower.  

        * Hotel Windamere.

        * Swiss Hotel. A charming Colonial style hotel with own garden.

    GANGTOK:

    Budget:

A nice place for budget tourists and a good base to meet other travellers - recently relocated to the main town near the Tourist Information Centre. It also organizes tours throughout Sikkim.

        * Central Lodge - a nice place for Budget tourists and a good base to meet other travellers - recently relocated to the main town near the Tourist Information Centre. It also organizes tours throughout Sikkim.

        * Green Hotel, Mahatama Gandhi Road. One of the oldest budget hotels in Gangtok. Rooms are clean, some with attached bath. Hot water in buckets (unless recently upgraded). Rs. 200-500.

    Mid-range:

        * Hotel Tibet, Paljor Stadium Road. Clean and comfortable rooms with an excellent restaurant. Rs.1500-2500.

        * Hotel Rigwa International Libing Complex, M.G.Marg & Nam Nam Crossing, above Star Cinema Hall.

        * Hotel Delamare, Church Road. Conveniently located, warm, elegant decor and excellent service. 1,200rs+ per night
