  1. if you are colonizing,it's colonialism....if you are being colonized,it's Imperialism...po-tay-to,po-tah-to...

  2. Actually, If you colonize an area, and take your own citizens to build a colony on land that is otherwise unoccupied, it is Colonialism.

If you take over an area that is populated by people who do not identify themselves as your citizens, it is imperialism.

  3. Not alot.

Imperialism, you settle your own people to rule over the native population.  YOu don't try to replace them outright, but you do try to make them more like you.

Colonialism, in the more modern form; sends out groups of people to settle a land; and since few if any places don't have people there already; defeat/destroy/enslave/incorporate the native population.

In reality, both sends people out to subdue their culture and people so your culture and people can spread and be in charge.

  4. Colonialism is the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically. While, Imperilism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. So the main difference would be the colonizing.
