Turtles and tortoises on the international endangered species list are protected world-wide.

In the US, most of it depends on which state you are in, although any turtle the US lists as endangered, whether on the international list or not, is also protected from collection in the wild.

It is also against federal regulation to sell ANY turtle under 4" in a commercial way except for legitimate educational or research purposes.

Otherwise, it is mostly state by state.

in NJ its illegal to sell turtles!!!!!!! and theyre my faveee =[ but yes 4".

Just to clarify, the 4 inch law only pertains to the sale of those turtles. It is not illegal to buy or possess one.
